Talawanda sweeps MS cross country titles

A gold medal is a wonderful thing.  But if you’re not enough without it, you’ll never be enough with it.  This was the quote of the week for Talawanda Cross Country last week.  Talawanda cross country runners have been enough all season with their great character and attitude.  On Saturday they added the gold medal and it is a wonderful thing.

The boys and girls middle school cross country teams swept the SWOC Championships in dominating fashion at Talawanda High School on Saturday, October 15.  The girls took the first four places with Maddy Iden being crowned the individual champion.  She was followed closely by Libby Farmer, Eva Motta and Hannah Lippincott, all in personal record times.  Izzy Lykins ran her best race of the year to finish as the fifth scorer for the Braves to seal the victory.  Brooke Hubbard, Alyssa Chaney, Chase Pierson and Savannah Smith also ran personal records in the race.  Also contributing to the championship season were Alysse Aylor, Lilly Cieslak, Rachel Dsuban, Katie Keeler, Sophie Mack, Gabby Sawyers, Morgan Stahr and Jada Teege.

The boys also won the SWOC Championship as they had 6 of the first 10 finishers.  Kiefer Bell, Daniel Sawdai and Jacob Friedline finished in new personal records in 2nd, 3rd and 4th places.  Zeke Groom, Ben Shrider and Luke West-Poley also ran very well to finish in 8th, 9th and 10th places.  Others setting personal records were Hunter Caudill and Levi Tanner.  Also completing the season and contributing to the championship season were James Beckett, Morgan Gillespie, Ben Nachowitz, Tyler Wheelright and Daryl Zazycki.
